SUV Tents are Cool, but How do They Work?

Camping is a great way to get away from it all and enjoy some time in nature. But, let's be honest, sleeping on the ground is not always the most comfortable experience.

That's where an SUV tent comes in. An SUV tent allows you to camp in comfort by giving you a place to sleep off the ground. But how do they work? Let's take a look.

Types of SUV Tents

There are two main types of SUV tents: those that attach to your vehicle and those that can attach to your SUV or be freestanding. The type of SUV tent you choose will depend on your needs and preferences.

SUV tents that attach to your vehicle typically have straps or loops that hook onto your car's roof rack. These tents provide a little more stability than freestanding tents and can be a good choice if you're expecting bad weather. However, they can be more difficult to set up and take down.

Freestanding SUV tents, on the other hand, may have a unique vehicle sleeve that can be detached from your SUV allowing you to leave your tent freestanding, if  you want to make a quick trip to town. They typically have their own support poles that hold them up.  SUV Tents like this can sleep up to 6 (with two in the back of the SUV, plus four in the freestanding tent).   Alternatively you can choose to sleep in the tent and keep the back of the SUV packed with gear or vice versus.

Benefits of Using an SUV Tent

There are several benefits of using an SUV tent over a traditional tent, including:

  • You don't have to sleep on the ground: One of the biggest advantages of an SUV tent is that it keeps you off the ground, you can sleep in the back of your SUV.  This means you don't have to worry about insects, rocks, or other things bothering you while you sleep.
  • You can leave your site: With a freestanding SUV tent, you can detach it from your vehicle and leave it at your campsite while you explore the area. This gives you the freedom to leave your campsite without having to pack up your entire tent.
  • They're comfortable: SUV tents usually have more headroom than traditional tents, so you can move around more easily inside them. Additionally, many come with features like screens and windows that help improve airflow and keep insects out.
  • They're spacious: Most SUV tents are designed to fit 4 or 6 people comfortably. So, if you're camping with family or friends, an SUV Tent is a great option.

An SUV Tent is a great option for camping if you want something more comfortable than a traditional tent. They come in two main types—those that attach to your vehicle so you can sleep right in the back of your SUV and those that are freestanding, some freestanding will have connection to the SUV as well —and each has its own advantages and disadvantages.

Ultimately, the decision of which type of SUV Tent to buy depends on your needs and preferences.  We can help you with that decision!
